Seniors Get Fit for Surfing
Seniors get fit for surfing in a number of ways. Surfing is a full body sport and even moderately exercising the whole body is good preparation. Surfing does require upper body strength, leg strength, flexibility and stamina.
A great lifestyle includes exercise. Feeling healthy is a combination of eating properly and exercising the muscles so they do not atrophy. Surfing is a nearly complete exercise for the whole body, but there are good exercises to support surfing. Surfing can even be the goal of getting fit.
The Fundamentals of Getting in Surf Shape
The exercises for strength, flexibility, and stamina create a good program for getting fit. Beginning a weight program can start without the weights and just doing floor exercises such as squats, lunges, dead lifts and push ups if possible. Cables are a gentle way to get into the process of building arms, back, chest and shoulders. Progressing to machines helps control the movement and can be operated at minimum weight.
Flexibility is something often lacking from children up to seniors. Being sedentary creates tightness in the hamstrings, buttocks, and lower back. Putting palms on the floor without bending knees is a good goal. Placing a foot on a table at waist height stretches the hamstrings. Sitting on the floor with legs spread and trying to touch toes is good for the lower back and hamstrings. Squats with or with out weights is of the best exercises for building strength and flexibility.
Stamina is developed starting with walking. Start with 10-15 minutes a day and progress to 30 minutes and then 60 minutes. 5 days a week is a good goal. At 30 minutes that is 150 minutes a week. At 60 minutes that is 300 minutes a week. Crossing it with biking, swimming, or treadmills is extra. Maybe you will be in shape to start running. In any exercise including walking, if you can introduce intervals of time where you speed up, it is double the benefit.
With this routine, you will be in shape to engage in lots of activities including surfing.

The new Omicron variants can often sidestep the anti-bodies in vaccinations. This is when we need to have a strong immunity system. This is when people with underlying conditions like obesity or chronic metabolic disorders like diabetes become vulnerable.
Developing good health habits will help your immune system. The main components would be to attain a healthy weight. Eat healthy. Exercise, Get adequate sleep. Mitigate stress. Drink half your body weight in water oz (a 200-pound person drinks 100 oz.) Consider supplements for the nutrients you may not consume in your daily diet.
One of my favorites is the Rishi mushroom. It has been chronicled in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It supports the major systems. It fights viruses, bacteria, allergies, and inflammation. I get a compilation of 5 reishi mushrooms extracted and combined into one powder. You can get a discount as my client with this link.
