Surfers Want to Get Lean

Surfers want to get lean for a number of reasons. Surfing improves when the power to weight ratio increases. This is the power to lift your weight off the surfboard. It is important for perfecting the pop up. The pop up becomes more critical when riding bigger waves.

Leanness improves oxygen up take. Surfing includes lots of paddling which is very aerobic. Why are the world’s best runners around 135 pounds? Because the lighter your body, the more efficiently you use oxygen and the longer you last before feeling oxygen deficit. If you want to paddle for longer surf sessions, lighter body weight is a boost.

The Fundamentals of Getting in Surfing Shape

Strength is important for surfing which is a little different than stamina. Strength does create stamina. Iron Man athletes say the muscle building helps them survive when their stamina ebbs. As muscles are developed, they start storing more glucose for energy. The more energy muscles can store, the longer the athlete can engage in his event or train.

Stamina results from muscle building and aerobics. A simple aerobics program can begin with walking, biking, swimming, or treadmills. It can progress to a level where breathing becomes more difficult. This is one way personal trainers measure your effort. As you progress to greater levels of aerobic fitness where breathing and talking at the same time become more difficult, you can start introducing intervals. These are the ultimate aerobic conditioners.

Building strength and stamina build muscle and require fuel. The body first feeds on carbohydrates and protein, but quickly turns to fat once these nutrients become depleted. In recovery, muscles utilize fat and more carbs and protein that you feed your body. Runners train their bodies to burn fat with long slow runs. Muscle builders train their bodies to burn fat with intense workouts and windows of fasting.

It becomes clear why professional surfers spend more time out of the water cross training than in the water. Surfing techniques are important, but improving physical capabilities ensure longer and better performances. The average person can get in better shape to surf or in better condition to start surfing. Fitness serves to improve your lifestyle and gives you the opportunities for lots of recreations.
