Daily exercise rarely creates the flexibility and in fact often tightens these muscles not to mention sitting for hours at a desk.

Strength is important. Surfers talk about a power to weight ratio which means do you have the power to lift your body off the board. The surfer needs upper body, lower body, and core strength. The two best exercises are push ups and squats. Do them daily. It is also good to practice the pop up daily in your living room to gain the movement and surf specific muscles necessary.

Stamina is Valuable for All Phases of Daily Living

Stamina is necessary for the very arduous task of paddling and fighting the ocean. People that are overweight have probably not been doing aerobic exercises and this is the place to start. Start by walking and then get to jogging, biking, tread mills, swimming, hiking, or rowing. Everything helps. Shoot for an hour a day. At low speeds, the body does not need to recover with a day’s rest.

Combine everything. Soon you will feel more fit and your quality of lifestyle improves. Getting in surf condition opens the opportunity to engage in a lot of recreations you might want to try.
