Why Beginner Surfers Like Oceanside

Beginner surfers like Oceanside because there are great foam waves that are easy to catch. Beginner surfers have to learn the fundamentals before they can ride real waves.

The fundamentals learned are balancing on the board while paddling, positioning to catch a wave, paddling until in front of the wave, popping up on the board, and then riding the board to the beach.

In a dry land lesson, students learn all the tactics, but applying them in the water is difficult because there are so many facets that have to occur one right after the other. An instructor is able to give order to focus in the water because the student’s mind is usually in overwhelm.

Catching Waves

Once students learn to ride waves after being pushed, they can begin to catch their own waves. This introduces another magnitude because they have to remember the fundamentals while learning how to catch a wave.

Once students have learned these two aspects, they can start paddling out through waves, turning around and catching bigger waves. Once this is comfortable, they can try catching real waves.

Catching real waves is another order of magnitude because the positioning and timing have to be added to what the student already knows. Plus, the real wave moves faster so all the fundamentals have to be comfortable because the new speed is not.

Oceanside offers the student the perfect playground because they can go through all these steps. Often a student is able to go through all the steps in one lesson.
