Surfing Short Board Carves

learning short board surfing techniques

Surfing Short Board Carves are learned after intermediates can catch real waves down the face. Carving gets the surfboard into the pocket where the short board surfer learns to drive the wave until it loses power.

After successfully catching waves and doing a bottom turn into the pocket, the surfer can add a few more important carves to his routine. The cut back is elementary tool and accelerating is important on every ride.

The bottom turn is executed by turning the eyes in the direction of the carve and then the upper torso twists in unison. The surfer places pressure on the toes or heels, whichever is on the carve side. On short boards, surfers often compress to get more rail into the wave. The bottom turn is used again to ride up the face for a trick and to escape a falling lip.

The cut back is executed by turning the eyes in the reverse direction of travel and then the upper torso also twists to reverse direction. This carve is used to rip the lip at the top after bottom turning up the face. It is used while driving the wave to cut back to more power near the lip. It is used for style on a ride and to stall to perhaps wait for a barrel.

Accelerating is moving the nose of the surfboard up and down the wave with the front foot. After bottom turning into the wave, the surfer accelerates a few times before the first trick. After the trick, he accelerates again. Coaches tell their students, two or three is enough and then execute a maneuver or trick.

After mastering these carves, surfers may go on to aerials, 360’s, reverses, planning the lip, and many more. Surfers watch snowboarders and skateboarders to see what they are doing and often take their tricks to the water.

Build Immunity in this Covid Era

The new Omicron variants can often sidestep the anti-bodies in vaccinations. This is when we need to have a strong immunity system. This is when people with underlying conditions like obesity or chronic metabolic disorders like diabetes become vulnerable.

Developing good health habits will help your immune system. The main components would be to attain a healthy weight. Eat healthy. Exercise, Get adequate sleep. Mitigate stress. Drink half your body weight in water oz (a 200-pound person drinks 100 oz.) Consider supplements for the nutrients you may not consume in your daily diet.

One of my favorites is the Rishi mushroom. It has been chronicled in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It supports the major systems. It fights viruses, bacteria, allergies, and inflammation. I get a compilation of 5 reishi mushrooms extracted and combined into one powder. You can get a discount as my client with this link.

This is a short statement that says it all:

  • Reishi: Reishi is arguably the most important and most revered herb used by Asian people throughout history to promote radiant health, longevity and a more centered state of mind. It is known to be among the most protective herbs in the world. Reishi may help improve immunological, neurological, metabolic, hepatic and vascular protection, among other functions.
