Start Surfing in Foam Waves

Start surfing in foam waves because they make it easier to learn the fundamentals. The fundamentals of beginning surfing are similar to advanced surfing on real waves. Therefore, learn where it is easiest.

You also start on a high volume soft top board. Once again, it is best to start on a board where learning the fundamentals is easiest. You do not want the board to be the issue with learning the basics.

The Surfing Fundamentals in Foam Waves

Surfing in foam waves can begin in waist deep water. You learn how to roll over on the surfboard as the wave is within 20 feet and start paddling easy. Look back and when the wave is within 3 feet start to paddle hard. Paddle until the board is in front of the wave and the nose has come up even with the surface.

Once the surfer has caught the wave and the board is going straight and level, the surfer can put their hands on it to begin the pop up. The easier beginner pop up has the surfer putting their back foot flat on the board and standing up on it as they raise their hands and move the other foot to the front of the board.

Once the surfer has mastered these techniques, they can begin paddling out to catch bigger foam waves. The surfer paddles out and looks for a gap big enough to turn the board around. Then he starts paddling just as he did when near shore.

As the surfer learns to paddle out and catch bigger foam waves, he can begin to try small real waves. The timing is different and the board moves faster, so at the beginning the surfer needs a little more courage.

Have fun.
