Learn surfing on soft top surf boards because it is the quickest route to progress. Soft top boards have high volume which makes catching waves, paddling, and standing up much easier. Short boards are for advanced surfers with years of experience.

Soft top surf boards are for learning in foam waves close to the beach. Oceanside has ideal beginner conditions because waves break out far and roll a long way to shore in foam. Begin close to shore and then paddle out for bigger waves.

Learning the Surfing Fundamentals

On soft top surf boards in foam waves, beginners start near shore to catch and ride waves. The surfer first learns how to roll over on the board with their feet at the tail and balanced perfectly in the middle straight as an arrow.

Surfers paddle before the wave arrives. Then the surfer rolls over and paddles easy. When the wave is three feet away the surfer paddles hard as the wave hits the board and until the surf board is in front of the wave.

Once the board is plaining on the smooth surface, the surfer puts their hands on the surf board in a man’s push up position. Then he pushes up and puts his rear foot flat on the board under his butt. Finally he stands on that rear leg as he raises his hands and places his front foot near the nose.

Once this process is mastered, the surfer can paddle out for bigger foam waves and then small real waves. The soft top surf board can be surfed on bigger and bigger real waves as the surfer learns all the maneuvers.

The 8′ soft top surf board can be used forever if a surfer does not go in the water frequently. The hard board are good for more maneuvers but as they get shorter, everything also becomes more challenging.
